At CIR, we hope our investigations will inspire meaningful change to laws, policies and procedures to better protect people and strengthen democracy.
We never expect our work to inspire art. But that’s what happened after we began collaborating with Tides Theatre in San Francisco.
That collaboration has resulted in two plays: “Headlock” by William Bivins and “A Guide to the Aftermath” by Jon Bernson.
Blevins’ play is based on Broken Shield, reporter Ryan Gabrielson’s investigation of California’s Office of Protective Services, the police force charged with protecting the severely disabled residents of the state’s developmental centers.
Bernson’s play is based on director Mimi Chakarova’s documentary, “Her War: The Invisible Crisis of Women Veterans.”
You can see both plays through Saturday at Tides Theatre.
