Fact-based journalism is worth fighting for.

TechRaking 20: News from Space

News Lab at Google

Remote-sensing capabilities and the accessibility of satellite and aerial imagery have dramatically increased in recent years, but journalists are only beginning to explore the news-gathering potential of these techniques. The Center for Investigative Reporting is teaming up with Google for TechRaking 20: News from Space, bringing together journalists and experts in remote sensing and science communication. We’ll showcase work already being done in this field and present ideas for how journalists can adopt and adapt many untapped techniques.

And because there’s currently no manual for doing journalism with remote sensing, let’s build one. We’ll end the day by starting work on the Space Journalism Handbook, a new open-source resource for journalists who want to effectively and responsibly use remote-sensing techniques.
