Aaron Glantz has been reporting on the Department of Veterans Affairs and the war in Iraq for most of the last decade. But when the Center for Investigative Reporting published a story last month on leaked internal VA documents that showed the number of veterans waiting more than a year for their benefits had increased 2,000 percent under President Barack Obama, the whole nation took notice. Data from those internal documents have been imported into an interactive map, which also shows average wait times by location. Our data and reporting have been cited by national and local media outlets in broadcast, online and print platforms, including CNN and PBS NewsHour, as well as editorials from The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times.
